Van and 9-seater long-term rental: Large-capacity vehicles for teams and businesses
When do companies need a van or 9-seater?
The need for large-capacity vehicles arises in very different business situations. What these situations have in common: A normal car is not enough, but a large van is oversized. Vans and multi-seaters close precisely this gap.
Team transportation and employee shuttle: Craft businesses, construction companies and industrial service providers regularly have to transport teams to different locations. A 7- or 9-seater turns several individual journeys into a joint journey and saves costs, time and parking spaces.
Care services and social facilities: Mobile care services, transport services for the disabled and social services require reliable vehicles for the transportation of patients, residents or clients. Flexible seating arrangements and barrier-free conversions are particularly in demand in this segment.
Event logistics and customer service: Companies that pick up customers, guests or delegations from the airport, train station or hotel need representative multi-seaters. A van offers sufficient space for people and luggage and leaves a professional impression.
Combination of passenger and material transport: Many trades require employees and tools or materials to be transported at the same time. Vans with flexible seat configurations make exactly that possible: fold down the seats, extend the load space, both in one vehicle.
Seasonal and project-related requirements: Whether trade fair construction, seasonal agricultural workers or temporary large-scale projects: Long-term rental makes it possible to hire large-capacity vehicles for the exact period they are needed without making a long-term commitment.
Van and multi-seater models at MHC Mobility
MHC Mobility offers various vans and multi-seaters for commercial long-term rental, regardless of manufacturer. The models differ in size, number of seats and usage profile.
Opel Vivaro
The Opel Vivaro is a versatile van that can be used both as a multi-seater for passenger transport and as a combination of passenger and material transport. With flexible seating configurations, plenty of storage space and a high level of driving comfort, it is suitable for trade teams, care services and shuttle operations.
- Flexible seats and variable load space
- Economical diesel engine (1.5 l)
- High level of comfort even on longer journeys
Opel Vivaro-e (electric)
The all-electric version of the Vivaro is particularly suitable for urban use: shuttle services in low emission zones, care services in urban areas or passenger transportation over short to medium distances. As a purely electric vehicle, the Vivaro-e benefits from the 0.25% regulation and vehicle tax exemption.
- Fully electric drive for emission-free operation
- Attractive for tax purposes: 0.25 % non-cash benefit
- Ideal for urban routes and low emission zones
Opel Combo
The Opel Combo is the more compact van in the MHC Mobility range. It is suitable for operations where a full 9-seater would be too big, but a normal car is not enough. As a high-roof van, it offers a surprising amount of space for people and equipment.
- Compact van with plenty of space
- Economical in consumption
- Also available as Opel Combo-e with electric drive
Mercedes eVito
The Mercedes eVito combines typical Mercedes quality with an all-electric drive. As a van for passenger transportation, it offers space, comfort and a prestigious appearance. It is particularly suitable for companies that value a premium look and want to travel emission-free at the same time.
- Fully electric premium van
- Representative for customer transport and shuttle
- Access to all inner-city environmental zones
Ford Transit Custom
The Ford Transit Custom is one of the best-selling vans in Europe and offers space for up to nine people in the estate version. Its robust construction and generous amount of space make it a workhorse for trade teams, construction companies and logistics service providers.
- Up to 9 seats in the estate version
- Robust workmanship for demanding applications
- Large load capacity even with full seating
All the models mentioned can be ordered immediately from stock via FlexiRent or individually configured via SelectRent. Other van models from other manufacturers can also be ordered as desired new vans via SelectRent.
Customization: from standard van to tailor-made emergency vehicle
Many companies require vans and multi-seaters that are tailored to their specific purpose over and above the standard equipment. MHC Mobility offers industry-specific conversions and customizations from the very first vehicle:
- Flexible seating arrangements: Fold down or remove seats to create cargo space
- Partition walls between passenger and loading area
- Vehicle lettering with company logo, contact details and advertising messages
- Shelf installations and toolboxes for trade teams
- Transport boxes and lashing rails for securing loads
- Ventilation and air conditioning of the passenger compartment as required
The conversion can be paid for once or in installments over the rental period. Markings and installations are carried out at the nine MHC Mobility Centers in Germany or via the partner network.
What is included in the monthly installment
The van long-term rental from MHC Mobility works as an all-round carefree package. The fixed monthly rate includes:
- Registration and vehicle tax (exempt for electric models until the end of 2030)
- Motor vehicle liability insurance and liability reduction
- Maintenance and wear and tear repairs
- Tire change
- UVV inspections (particularly relevant for commercial passenger transportation)
- 24-hour emergency service and replacement vehicle service
- Pick-up and delivery service
- Broadcasting fee
In addition, you only pay for the fuel or electricity. For vans and 9-seaters in particular, which are frequently driven by different drivers, the UVV inspection as an included service is an important advantage: MHC Mobility ensures that the statutory accident prevention regulations are complied with without your fleet management having to worry about it.
Use vans and 9-seaters for tax purposes
The monthly rental installment is fully tax-deductible as a business expense. With the non-cash benefit rule, the models differ according to the type of drive:
- Internal combustion vans (Vivaro, Combo, Transit Custom): 1% of the gross list price for private use
- Plug-in hybrids: 0.5% of the gross list price
- Fully electric vans (Vivaro-e, Combo-e, eVito): Only 0.25% of the gross list price (BLP up to €70,000), plus vehicle tax exemption until the end of 2030
In the case of vans and 9-seaters that are used exclusively for commercial purposes (e.g. shuttle service, material transportation), the imputed income tax is not applicable. The entire rental rate is then deductible as a business expense.
Practical example: 9-seater for a care service
An outpatient care service in a large city in northern Germany looks after around 80 patients a day in the urban area. Until now, the nursing staff have driven private cars and received a mileage allowance. The management would like to switch to company cars in order to better control costs and ensure a uniform appearance.
The solution via MHC Mobility:
- Four Opel Combo for daily patient visits in the urban area, compact and economical
- An Opel Vivaro as a 9-seater for group transportation to training courses and team meetings at different locations
- All vehicles with company lettering, realized at the nearest MHC Mobility Center
- Fixed monthly installments per vehicle, which are assigned directly to the cost centers
- A personal contact person coordinates maintenance appointments and vehicle replacements so that no vehicle breaks down unexpectedly
The result: predictable mobility costs, a professional appearance and a noticeable reduction in the burden on management when organizing the vehicle fleet.
Is a special driver’s license required for the 9-seater long-term rental?
MHC Mobility’s rental pool includes vans, minibuses and estate cars with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 tons. This means that all vehicles can be driven with a normal car driver’s license (class B). A truck driver’s license is not required. This also applies to 9-seaters, provided they do not exceed the 3.5-ton limit.
Good to know
As a rule, no passenger transport license is required for commercial passenger transport with vehicles up to 9 seats (including driver), provided that the transport is not carried out for commercial purposes or for a fee for third parties. In case of uncertainty, we recommend clarifying the regulations with the competent authority.
Maintenance and service by MHC Mobility
All service-relevant services for your vans and 9-seaters are included in the monthly rate. MHC Mobility actively reminds you when service appointments are due and organizes workshop visits via the nationwide network of service partners and the nine MHC Mobility Centers. If a vehicle breaks down due to a repair, a replacement vehicle is provided.
The integrated maintenance logic is a major advantage, especially for vans, which are frequently driven by different drivers and are subjected to greater stress in commercial use than passenger cars. MHC Mobility ensures that the vehicles remain in perfect condition and replaces them according to defined parameters in order to guarantee vehicle quality in the long term.
Van long-term rental vs. van purchase and daily rental
Companies that regularly need vans or 9-seaters are faced with the same basic question as with cars: buy, lease or rent? In the case of large vans, however, there are two aspects to the consideration.
Higher acquisition costs: Vans and multi-seaters are significantly more expensive to purchase than comparable cars. The capital commitment when buying is correspondingly higher. Long-term rental avoids this investment completely.
Greater wear and tear: Vehicles that are used daily by different drivers and are fully loaded wear out more quickly. When you buy, you bear this risk yourself. With long-term rental, all maintenance and wear and tear repairs are already included in the rate.
Compared to daily rental, the same applies to vans as to cars: as soon as the need extends beyond a few weeks, long-term rental is the more economical solution. Daily rates for 9-seaters and vans are significantly higher than daily rates for cars, which makes the cost savings from long-term rental particularly noticeable for large vehicles.
