The monthly payment for a Polestar car subscription is generally treated as a business expense and reduces taxable income.
For private use as a company car, the all-electric Polestar 2 is taxed as a benefit in kind at only 0.25 percent of the gross list price per month. This applies provided that the gross list price does not exceed 100,000 euros. This limit was raised from 70,000 euros to 100,000 euros effective July 1, 2025 (Section 6(1)(4) of the German Income Tax Act (EStG)). If the gross list price exceeds this amount, the 0.5 percent rule applies.
In addition, all-electric vehicles are exempt from motor vehicle tax for ten years if they are first registered by December 31, 2030, and no later than December 31, 2035 (Section 3d of the Motor Vehicle Tax Act). Individual tax classification should be discussed with a tax advisor.
