E-car subscription, electric car subscription or long-term e-car rental?

Discover our selection

There are several terms circulating on the market relating to the rental of electric vehicles for companies. At MHC Mobility, these terms stand for two clearly different products and use cases, not synonyms.

The e-car subscription is the product name for the monthly use of a single electric vehicle with a minimum term of one month, with insurance, maintenance and service in a fixed monthly installment. The terms electric car subscription or electric subscription are also used in the same sense. The model is aimed at companies that need a single electric car at short notice, want to test a model or supplement their fleet.

The E-car long-term rental is the strategic approach for companies that want to gradually electrify their fleet. It combines the rental of several electric vehicles with fleet analysis, advice on charging infrastructure and predictable terms. If you want to move on from individual vehicle use and convert your entire fleet, you will find the right contact point on the page for long-term e-car rental.

In a nutshell: The e-car subscription meets the need for one or a few vehicles with a high degree of flexibility. The e-car subscription meets the need for one or a few vehicles with a high degree of flexibility.

What is an e-car subscription?

An e-car subscription is the rental of an electric vehicle for a fixed monthly rate that already includes almost all running vehicle costs. Unlike traditional leasing or purchasing, there is no down payment, residual value risk and most ancillary costs. With MHC Mobility, the e-car subscription works like a flat rate for electromobility: the fixed monthly rate covers registration, vehicle liability insurance, vehicle tax, maintenance, wear and tear repairs, tire changes and the 24-hour emergency service. Only the charging current at the wallbox or public charging station has to be paid additionally.

For commercial customers, this results in a calculable cost item that can be recognized as an operating expense. The e-car subscription is therefore particularly suitable for companies that want to integrate electromobility into their fleet or initially test it without high administrative costs. Within the Long-term rental the subscription is the package logic with which MHC Mobility communicates this usage approach in an understandable and transparent way.

Why an electric car subscription for companies?

The switch to electromobility presents companies with several challenges at the same time: which models are suitable for the application profile, how will ranges and battery technology develop, and how can the right charging infrastructure be set up? An e-car subscription answers precisely these questions without companies having to make a long-term commitment.

With a term starting at one month, the e-car subscription can be flexibly adapted to different needs: testing a single electric vehicle in everyday life, bridging delivery times for ordered new cars or gradually building up a complete electric fleet. The e-car subscription combines the flexibility of a rental with the predictability of longer-term use. Employees gain experience with driving behavior, charging and range in real-life use. If the decision is against a model, the switch is easy. If the decision is positive, the subscription is extended or extended to other vehicles.

Another advantage is the cost structure. Because no down payment is due and there are no residual value risks, the capital remains free for important business investments. The monthly installment is clearly calculable as an operating expense and facilitates budget planning in the vehicle fleet. At the same time, company car drivers benefit from tax concessions currently granted by the legislator for purely electric cars.

E-car subscription in comparison: leasing, purchase and subscription compared

If you want to use an electric vehicle in your company, you can choose between three basic models: Purchase, leasing and e-car subscription. Each model has its own strengths. The following comparison compares the most important differences in a commercial context and makes it easier to classify which model suits your needs. The e-car subscription offers the greatest flexibility, especially for companies that want to gradually introduce electric mobility or monitor the development of the technology. When buying or leasing, on the other hand, a company has to make a commitment for several years, including all handling, maintenance and insurance costs. The e-car subscription bundles these items into a single monthly payment and makes it easy to compare the total costs directly. In a nutshell: The e-car subscription combines the flexibility of short-term rental with the predictability of leasing. Companies benefit from a single monthly installment with no down payment, integrated insurance and full service. Ideal for introducing electric mobility into the fleet without risk.

What makes the MHC Mobility e-car subscription different

When comparing e-car subscription providers, you should start with the scope of services, not just the monthly rate. The content and maturity level of the packages differ significantly on the market. Four aspects make MHC Mobility’s e-car subscription stand out.

Firstly, the offer is aimed exclusively at commercial customers. Self-employed persons, freelancers and companies of all sizes will find conditions on a clearly tailored platform that are not geared towards private customer logic. Private individuals are not supplied.

Secondly, the offer is backed by a service network of eight MHC Mobility Centers plus headquarters in Bockel, with its own workshop capacity and personal contacts. Maintenance, tire changes and claims handling are carried out by them, not by interchangeable subcontractors.

Thirdly, MHC Mobility is part of the Mitsubishi HC Capital Group. This results in conditions that can be planned for the long term, even if the market for electric vehicles develops dynamically.

Fourthly, the e-mobility solution is not just a vehicle offering, but also includes wallbox installation, load management and charging current billing through the partnership with LichtBlick. MHC Mobility thus covers the complete 360-degree needs of a commercial electric fleet.

E-car subscription offers: Available e-car models at a glance

The vehicle range at MHC Mobility is cross-brand and covers the spectrum of current electromobility. From compact cars for inner-city use to comfortable business saloons and electric vans, there is a portfolio that covers a wide range of commercial usage profiles. Electric cars on subscription can therefore be tailored specifically to the respective requirements.

Popular e-car models on subscription:

  • Tesla Model 3 and Model Y: The mid-size saloon and the compact electric SUV are among the most popular vehicles in the field. Ranges of over 500 kilometers and the dense Supercharger network make it possible to plan longer business trips.
  • Fiat 500e in the car subscription: The compact Italian style icon is particularly suitable for inner-city areas, last-mile delivery services and professions with changing short assignments. For many companies, the Fiat 500e subscription is the low-cost entry into electromobility.
  • Hyundai Kona Electric: The generous amount of space and comfortable interior make the Kona Electric a practical choice for business trips with changing passengers or luggage.
  • Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron: As an electric SUV with a range of up to 520 kilometers and high-quality equipment, the Audi e-tron car subscription model appeals primarily to companies that value representation in their external appearance.

In addition to these examples, the range also includes other electric models from established brands, including Opel with the Corsa-e and Mokka-e, Peugeot with the e-208, Volkswagen with the e-up and other electric models, Nissan with the Leaf, Ford with the Mustang Mach-E and Honda. Suitable models are also available for electric commercial vehicles and vans, for example for use by tradespeople in low emission zones or for courier services over the last mile. Specific availability can be filtered in the vehicle search, for example by vehicle type, manufacturer, transmission type, fuel type or energy efficiency class.

FlexiRent or SelectRent for your e-car?

MHC Mobility offers two product variants for companies to choose from. Both are based on long-term rental, but cover different requirements.

FlexiRent

  • Vehicle status: In stock, available immediately
  • Minimum term: 1 month or longer
  • Availability: in stock
  • Flexibility: very high; can be terminated daily after the minimum term
  • Customization: depending on inventory
  • Typical uses: testing, project teams, peak periods, temporary solutions

SelectRent

  • Vehicle Logic: Customizable New Car
  • Minimum term: typically 24 months or more
  • Availability: subject to configuration and delivery
  • Flexibility: predictable, long-term
  • Customization: extensive, including optional equipment and company decals
  • Typical use: Fleet standard, uniform fleet appearance, ongoing demand

In short: FlexiRent is the right choice when companies need to react quickly and flexibly to changing requirements or want to test electromobility on a day-to-day basis. SelectRent is the right choice if a configured new vehicle with individual equipment or company livery is to be permanently integrated into the fleet.

The advantages of an e-car subscription for commercial customers

An e-car subscription with MHC Mobility offers commercial customers specific benefits that go beyond the mere provision of a vehicle. Five aspects particularly highlight the model.

Flexibility without long-term commitment

The minimum term in the FlexiRent model starts at just one month. This allows companies to integrate electromobility into their everyday life without any obligation, without having to commit to several years as with leasing. If a project team needs an electric car available immediately at short notice, this can be provided from stock within a few days. If the vehicle is no longer needed, the subscription ends at the agreed conditions.

Flexibility is maintained even after the minimum term has expired. The subscription is automatically renewed at the same conditions, and daily termination is then possible depending on the contract. This creates a predictable model that can be adapted at any time if the company’s requirements change. An e-car subscription term of three months is just as feasible as use over six months or several years at a time.

Services included in the all-round carefree package

The fixed monthly price covers almost all ongoing vehicle costs. There are no hidden ancillary costs or additional bills for scheduled services.

The only additional item is the charging current at the wallbox or public charging station. Unlike a traditional purchase or lease, a subscription also eliminates the issues of residual value risk, loss of value and remarketing. At the end of the contract term, the vehicle is simply returned to MHC Mobility.

Cost control without surprises

The fixed monthly rate creates predictability, which is not the case with leasing or purchasing. Whereas with leasing, insurance, maintenance, tires and wear and tear repairs are ordered separately and billed individually depending on the contract, the e-car subscription bundles all these items into one rate. Anyone comparing e-car subscription deals or very cheap e-car subscriptions should therefore always pay attention to the overall scope of services, not just the monthly rate.

This considerably simplifies the cost side of fleet management. Invoices, maintenance appointments and claims processing are bundled via a fixed contact person at MHC Mobility. The effort required for internal fleet coordination is reduced, while cost transparency increases at the same time. For companies looking for a low-cost e-car subscription, this effect is often more important overall than simply comparing rates between individual providers.

Environmental aspects and contribution to sustainability

Electric vehicles in the fleet make a direct contribution to a company’s carbon footprint and strengthen its positioning as a sustainable business. Switching to an electrically powered fleet is not just a symbolic step. In urban use with many short journeys, e-cars play to their strengths: no local emissions, low noise pollution and unrestricted use of environmental zones are among the practical advantages.

There is also a positive effect on employer perception. Employees who have a modern electric company car at their disposal see the company as future-oriented. This contributes to the employer brand and can make a difference in attracting qualified specialists.

360-degree e-mobility with partner LichtBlick

The electric vehicle itself is only one part of a functioning e-mobility solution. Just as important are the charging infrastructure at the company location, charging options for employees at home and transparent billing of the charging current. Together with its energy partner LichtBlick, MHC Mobility offers this integrated solution. The vehicle and charging infrastructure are planned and implemented in a coordinated manner, without companies having to coordinate several trades themselves.

Wallbox for company location and home charging

LichtBlick provides advice, planning and installation of wallboxes, nationwide and from a single source. The implementation takes place at the company location or at the employee’s home. The scope of services includes checking the grid requirements, mounting the wallbox on the wall or on a stand, the necessary cabling and, if necessary, excavation work. The first maintenance of the installed hardware takes place 12 months after installation; service and fault clearance are available nationwide. This makes electric car charging with a subscription an end-to-end service from a single source.

Charging on the go with the LichtBlick charging card

The LichtBlick charging card gives employees, field staff and delivery drivers access to a Europe-wide charging network. The card already reaches more than 550,000 charging points in Europe. For companies, this means a reliable charging infrastructure, even on longer business trips, without having to manage individual fuel cards or charging contracts with different providers.

Load management and automatic billing

If several vehicles are charging at the same time at a company location, consumption peaks can lead to additional grid costs. LichtBlick’s online tool controls the charging points via intelligent load management and distributes the available power in such a way that consumption peaks are avoided. For charging company cars at employees’ homes, automatic billing of the charging current ensures a clear separation between private and company consumption. Individual charging processes no longer need to be recorded manually.

E-car subscription requirements and process

The path to an e-car subscription at MHC Mobility is clearly structured. From the first contact to the handover of the vehicle, the processes are bundled via a fixed contact person.

Registration, documents and approval

The request for an e-car subscription can be made by phone, e-mail or via the contact form on mhcmobility.de. Basic requirements must be met in order to take out a subscription.

Requirements for an e-car subscription:

  • Minimum age 18 years
  • Valid driving license
  • Commercial customers (self-employed, freelancers, companies)
  • Positive credit rating of the company

As a rule, the main driver’s driving license, a valid identity card or passport and current proof of the company’s creditworthiness must be submitted. Once the documents have been checked, interested parties receive a concrete offer for the desired electric vehicle.

Insurance and liability

Third-party car insurance is included in the monthly rate. In addition, the subscription includes a reduction in liability in the form of fully and partially comprehensive insurance with an excess of 950 euros per claim. The excess can be reduced on request. In the event of a claim, the MHC Mobility service team takes care of the entire process, including contacting the insurance company, organizing the repair and providing a replacement vehicle.

Maintenance and repairs

If an inspection or repair is due, the MHC Mobility service team is the central point of contact. A personal contact person is available for every e-car subscription and can be reached by phone or e-mail.

After receiving cost approval, the driver takes the vehicle to the nearest of the eight MHC Mobility Centers or to a partner workshop. The centers or officially recognized inspection companies such as DEKRA, GTÜ, KÜS or TÜV are available for the main inspection.

Contact for maintenance and damage

Repair and inspection: 04286 7703-466, service@mhcmobility.de

Claims notification: 04286 7703-444, schaden@mhcmobility.de

Minimum terms and termination options for the Elektro Auto subscription

The minimum term of the e-car subscription depends on the product selected. FlexiRent starts from a rental period of just one month and is suitable for short-term requirements, project teams or testing individual electric models. SelectRent is designed for the long term, typically from 24 months, and is geared towards configured new cars with individual equipment.

At the end of the agreed minimum term, the FlexiRent subscription automatically continues at the same conditions. From this point onwards, it is possible to terminate the contract on a daily basis, depending on the contract. Premature termination of the minimum term is also possible; in this case, a distance sum is calculated based on the remaining installments until the regular end of the contract.

E-car subscription costs and scope of services

The monthly rate in the e-car subscription is made up of the pure vehicle rental and the integrated services. Because the rate is independent of creditworthiness, companies receive the same conditions as comparable companies after a successful check. The specific amount depends on the selected vehicle, the term and the agreed mileage. A personal advisor will prepare an individual offer on request.

What is included in the monthly e-car subscription rate?

The fixed monthly rate covers all vehicle-related costs with the exception of the charging current. No down payment is required. An e-car subscription without a down payment is standard at MHC Mobility, not an exception.

Included in the monthly rate:

  • Registration and Transfer
  • Motor vehicle liability insurance
  • Vehicle tax
  • Maintenance and wear and tear repairs
  • Tires and Tire Changes
  • Reduction of liability
  • 24-hour emergency service
  • Replacement car service
  • Pick-up and delivery service
  • Broadcasting fee
  • Agreed free mileage

If you are only looking for an electric vehicle on a weekly basis at a flat rate, the e-car subscription is the long-term counterpart: instead of short rental windows with a high daily rate, the focus here is on the fixed monthly rate, which brings predictability to the company. Customers occasionally encounter offers such as an e-car subscription for less than 200 euros in the private customer sector as a short-term promotion. Commercial conditions follow a different logic and are based on the overall scope of services covered by the price.

Insurance options and services

Compared to traditional leasing models, there is one key difference: with leasing, ongoing operating and maintenance costs are usually not included in the monthly installment, but are billed via additional service contracts. With an e-car subscription, the opposite is the case. Insurance, maintenance, tires and service are part of the basic package. Additional services can be included on request, such as foreign insurance policies, special license plates or special tire variants. Special equipment and lettering for a uniform fleet appearance can also be included in the SelectRent model.

Subsidies and tax benefits for electric vehicles

For commercial owners of electric vehicles, there are several tax concessionsthat make the switch to e-mobility even more attractive.

Vehicle tax exemption: According to current legislation, purely electric vehicles registered for the first time by December 31, 2025 are exempt from vehicle tax until December 31, 2030. For the e-car subscription, this means that the tax is already included in the monthly rate and the exemption has a positive impact on the calculation.

0.25 percent rule for company car use: Anyone who uses a purely electric vehicle as a company car and also drives it privately only pays tax on the non-cash benefit at 0.25 percent of the gross list price per month. The prerequisite is that the gross list price does not exceed 100,000 euros. This limit was raised from the previous EUR 70,000 to EUR 100,000 as of July 1, 2025 (Section 6 (1) no. 4 EStG). If the gross list price exceeds 100,000 euros, the 0.5 percent rule applies. This reduces the monthly tax burden to a quarter compared to the classic one percent rule for combustion engines. The individual tax classification should be agreed with the tax consultant.

Promotion of charging infrastructure: Regional funding programs for wallboxes and company-owned charging infrastructure exist at the level of federal states, municipalities and individual energy suppliers. MHC Mobility and LichtBlick advise companies on the classification of these options in the respective project context. This advice is not a substitute for legal or tax advice.

MHC Mobility e-car subscription: flexible terms

Whether for short-term needs or as a long-term mobility solution – with the MHC Mobility car subscription, you decide for yourself how long you want to use your vehicle. Enjoy maximum flexibility thanks to customizable terms in an all-round carefree package.

FAQ: Frequently asked questions about the e-car subscription

The monthly rate depends on the selected vehicle, the term and the agreed mileage. Because insurance, maintenance, vehicle tax and other services are already included in the price, the rate can be compared directly with the total costs of buying or leasing. MHC Mobility prepares an individual calculation for a concrete offer. Offers in the very low two-digit or lower three-digit range, for example an e-car subscription for €99, under €200 or under €300 per month, can occasionally be found on the market as short-term offers for private customers. Commercial conditions follow a different logic and are based on the actual scope of services.

Yes. MHC Mobility does not charge a deposit. The monthly installment reflects the full terms of the contract; there are no additional one-off payments.

The FlexiRent model starts from a minimum term of one month. The SelectRent model is designed for long-term fleet standards with a configured new car of your choice, which generally starts from a term of 24 months. Intermediate forms such as an e-car subscription over 3 months or 6 months can be easily implemented in the FlexiRent model.

MHC Mobility offers car subscription solutions exclusively for commercial customers. Private use of the vehicles by employees is possible under the company car scheme. The tax classification as a non-cash benefit is based on the usual rules; the preferential 0.25 percent rule generally applies to purely electric vehicles.

The vehicle range is cross-brand and includes models from the small car, compact class, mid-size class, SUV and electric van segments. The most recent models available included Tesla, Fiat, Hyundai, Audi, Opel, Peugeot, Volkswagen, Nissan, Ford and Honda.

It is generally possible to swap vehicles during the term of the FlexiRent model, depending on availability in the fleet and the contract details. For example, companies can later replace an initially compact electric car with a larger electric SUV or an electric van if operational requirements change.

The monthly installment is generally treated as a business expense and reduces the taxable profit accordingly. The exact tax classification depends on the type of company and the usage profile. For individual assessments, we recommend consulting your tax advisor.

Electric vehicles are particularly suitable for short and medium distances, inner-city operations with stop-and-go traffic, professions with fixed routes and for companies with their own or plannable charging infrastructure. In sectors with a high public profile, such as consulting, trades in urban areas or the care sector, an e-fleet also enhances the company’s image.

The real range of an electric vehicle depends on several factors: the size and state of charge of the battery, the driving speed, the outside temperature, the load, the driving style and the use of air conditioning or heating. In winter, the range can be noticeably lower than the manufacturer’s specifications. The MHC Mobility e-team will provide information on realistic ranges in summer and winter operation for the models on offer before the contract is signed.

In terms of fuel alone, electric vehicles are currently below the costs of comparable combustion engines, especially when charging at your own location or via favorable commercial electricity tariffs. In addition, maintenance costs are lower because electric cars have fewer moving parts. In the overall view over several years, these effects are clearly significant.

Together with its partner LichtBlick, MHC Mobility implements complete charging solutions for electric fleets. The scope of services ranges from consulting and checking the grid requirements to installing the wallbox, load management, regular maintenance and automatic billing of the charging current. Implementation is possible both at the company site and at the employee’s home.

MHC Mobility’s e-car subscription is aimed exclusively at commercial customers, whereas most competitors primarily serve private customers or mix both segments. This results in commercial-specific conditions, clear credit rating processes and a service that is geared towards fleet reality. In addition, the company has its own network of eight MHC Mobility Centers for maintenance and claims processing, the Group connection to the Mitsubishi HC Capital Group and the integrated e-mobility solution together with partner LichtBlick.

No, both terms are used differently at MHC Mobility. The e-car subscription is the product name for the monthly use of a single electric vehicle from a minimum term of one month, ideal for individual vehicles, short-term demand or a test in the fleet. The Long-term e-car rental is aimed at companies that want to gradually electrify their entire fleet, with longer running times, fleet analysis and advice on charging infrastructure. If you want to try out a single vehicle, the e-car subscription is the right choice. If you want to strategically convert several vehicles, the e-car long-term rental is the right approach.

Yes. With the FlexiRent product, short to medium terms can be flexibly implemented. An e-car subscription for three or six months is just as feasible as use over several years. At the end of the minimum term, the subscription is automatically extended at the same conditions, and daily termination is then possible depending on the contract.

The FlexiRent model offers electric vehicles from the MHC Mobility fleet. Depending on the model and location, handover is possible within a few days. For individually configured new vehicles via SelectRent, the manufacturer’s usual delivery times apply; the subscription starts after configuration and delivery.
