New requirements for company vehicles

What has changed for company cars since June 28, 2025

This law not only has a really long name, but also long-term effects that extend into the mobility sector: the Barrier-Free Accessibility Reinforcement Act (BFSG) came into force on June 28, 2025. The aim: in future, products and services should be designed in such a way that they can be used by all people. This applies not only to public providers, such as public transport, but also to companies that provide their employees with company cars or fleet systems. But what does this actually mean in concrete terms?

Three important points that you should know as a fleet or HR manager

1. digital services must be accessible

In future, everything that is controlled or managed digitally with the company car – for example booking portals, logbook apps, online manuals or navigation systems – must be designed in such a way that it can be used easily by a wide range of people with very different backgrounds and of all ages. This includes read-aloud functions, clear contrasts, logical navigation and particularly intuitive operation.

2. transition period until 2030 for existing systems

Does everything have to be changed now? No. If digital solutions are already in use that do not yet meet the new standards, there is a grace period: they can continue to run until June 27, 2030. After that, complete accessibility is mandatory. New systems must be directly compliant from June 2025.

3. employers are also “providers”

If you provide your employees with apps, online portals or vehicle displays, you are considered a provider within the meaning of the law. This means that you are responsible for barrier-free design – even if the vehicles may also be used privately.

We will be happy to advise you: Even if there is a generous transition period for existing systems: It makes sense to switch now. Accessible mobility solutions make everyday working life easier, promote inclusion and show appreciation for all employees. How do you check whether your company vehicles meet the accessibility requirements? And which vehicles already offer an easy-to-use digital infrastructure? We at MHC Mobility are happy to support you – from the analysis to the new vehicle. Get in touch with us.
